Nobody pays for open source. We can force them to.

Free wins the code game, but the supply game is won by whoever is the default, and defaults can charge.

the people who run the meter pay the people who make the thing worth metering.

I Am a Flat-Rate Monthly Responsibility Service

There’s no prestige in being an active contributor to an open-source community anymore because you are just a meat proxy for the Borg. Make sure your docs are formatted for them!

Nothing was mastered. Their passion for solving the problem didn't push them through the hard part. They had an errant thought, manifested it into reality, and are now showing it to me. It's exactly like a coworker cornering you in the breakroom to tell you about a dream they had. You have to nod, but you are dead inside.

I am a flat-rate monthly responsibility service that agrees to assume full liability for the output of the robot. I am the human face with a pulse who can be lectured about why something did or didn't work. I will apologize. I will attempt to fix it. I will take the blame.

vibe coding doesn't work. maybe in another 5 years but not today.

for me "vibe coding" is what lovable, etc do. allowing non-devs to build software with a chat bot. i think you still need to be a trained software engineer to build reliable and secure software. from my experience agents still mess up very basic things. they def need steering. agent-assisted coding on the other hand is very real and a productivity multiplier.

Designing AI Native Teams

A small team with a strong agent workflow can produce an enormous amount of convincing work very quickly. That does not mean the work is correct, maintainable, secure, or worth shipping. Without strong ownership and production discipline, the feature team becomes a prototype generator that leaves the rest of the company to clean up the mess.

[AI makes judgement, domain expertise, and production ownership more important rather than unnecessary.]

Accidental anonymity

The perfected, generated, prompted resume is generic and impersonal. It tells me nothing about this person, other than that they use particular tools. I can't see the inputs to their outputs, see what they typed, or the process of building.

The email about why I'm the right person to try your side project says nothing about you. I don't know why you made it, who you are. I don't know your writing style. I don't have any way to connect to you as a person, and no reason to care.

["Resulting" is the evaluation of a choice based on outcome rather than its process; a different choice that appears to have "won" (especially by luck) wasn't necessarily a better decision or reflective of superior capacities.]

this will make them talk your ears off…

[People more often ask you to explain what happened rather than what it means.]

[ETFs tend to declare distributions and pay out in January, which makes it a useful moment to schedule your yearly rebalance.]

[ETFs tracker errors (not matching its benchmark), withholding taxes, and management fees mean that multiple funds tracking the same instruments can have inconsistent results. Compare fund returns with benchmark returns to get a sense for the diff.]

There's so much water, how can there be a shortage?

[The simple model of a water cycle we learned in school outlines rain falling jnto rivers and ebing carried back to the ocean. Most of our existence is between falling and the rivers.]

[Soil, swamps, plants, and beavers slow down watr before heading to the rivers. Concrete repels water directly into drains so that it leaves faster.]

[Water supply will strain when it is disconnected from natural deposits into aquifers. This can happen through sities, coal mining, golf courses, data centres, and industrial practices that pass water through the cycle faster.]

Reading is an encounter with possible worlds.

[Authoritarians don't like people reading because it increases the number of imaginable worlds contradicts the idea that there is only one version of history.]

Lesser of two evils?

[People eager to frame their problems through other people's identity don't want to question the underlying system, only taking a stance on banking through the lense of bankers being Jewish, or on protection of women through the lense of offenders being Muslim.]

[Choosing between "the lesser of two evils" in democratic elections reflects a continuous oscillation between radical pro-oligarch and moderate pro-oligarch where both further the same agenda. The former capitalizes on our frustration with the system by promising meaningful change and enacting laws by force to server the wealthy. The latter attempts to sooth our disappointment of authoritarian overstep by promising a return to sanity but following the laws created by the former.]
